ROOTED: Christ centered and student focused

Portland Seminary is committed to your spiritual formation – the process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others. We are Christ-centered, church-focused, culturally relevant, spiritually intentional, biblically based, broadly evangelical and technologically integrated. We will challenge your mind, heart and will as you seek to follow God’s call on your life.

READY: Embrace your calling to lead

Portland Seminary prepares students for ministry inside and outside local church walls. They go on to work as pastors, church staff, hospice, military and hospital chaplains. Our graduates are engaged in church planting, including multi-ethnic congregations, and overseeing denominational and parachurch ministries in the United States and abroad. Other graduates go on to earn postgraduate degrees and teach in seminaries or colleges.

Portland Seminary is dedicated to serving the present and future church by developing ministry leaders and preparing Christian scholars. We are extending the kingdom of God by educating, training, mentoring and equipping men and women for leadership service in society and the church.

An Intentional Community

Join an intentional community that enters more deeply into a transforming life with God. Through theological engagement and experiential learning, you'll become the kind of person who embodies a Christ-shaped presence in the world. Here’s how we pursue spiritual formation in our programs:

  • Spaciousness - Practices of solitude and silence will allow you to reflect on your life and the invitation of the Spirit woven throughout.
  • Diverse Community - Your interactions with diverse faculty and peers will foster compassion and understanding, leading to a life of integrity.
  • Practices - You’ll learn practices that support and sustain a Christ-like life while following a vocational call in ministry.

Recent Initiatives

The seminary is known for its pursuit of a holistic evangelicalism that brings together compassion and justice, innovation and faithfulness, reflection and practice. In keeping with its distinctives, some key seminary initiatives include:

  • Establishing some of the first master's and doctoral programs in Spiritual Formation and Direction
  • Launching the first concentration in Christian earthkeeping among evangelical seminaries
  • Serving as a leader in delivering high quality online theological education

All degree programs at Portland Seminary are accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) also certifies the seminary's programs. This dual accreditation is maintained through George Fox University and assures students of the highest academic and professional standards.
